Medusa

Brian Fisher

Figures and serpentine forms tangle across a turquoise ground in ochre and orange, drawn in continuous black line, with heads and limbs surfacing out of the coils and dropping back. Nothing resolves into a single body. Fisher paints the gorgon as the whole writhing field rather than as a woman with snakes, which sidesteps the usual portrait and makes the looking itself uneasy.
